Twelve Acre Work

Twelve Acre Work

I had an idea to do an entire exhibition based on the 12 acres that surround me. The stipulation was for the work to be in any medium as long as the subject was inspired from something I can see from or on the hayfield on which I live. Each new work will be added to top of the page. Some of the work will be for sale, some has sold, and some is not for sale.

I am honored to have been awarded a grant from RAAC’s Claudia Mitchell Arts Fund for my second book, 12 Months on 12 Acres-a sketchbook filled with all that I can observe and perceive from the 12 acres enveloping my studio. The viewer will be given the opportunity to tag along while I experiment and recreate. The publication date is scheduled for late summer or early fall of 2023.

Sit back, relax, and take a little time to see what inspires me with this video of photographs and short videos of the 12 acres on which I live and paint.I'm having a load of fun putting these clips together.

Taking advantage of splendid weather on Labor Day to paint from the front porch of the studio. This is what happens when you awaken to a hot air balloon passing overhead. You paint it.

May View, 9X12," Oil on Panel

Completely done with a palette knife. My intention at the outset was not to do the entire painting above with a palette knife. There is something about a knife that enables the painting to come alive and gives it an earthy feeling. The viewer can tell a painter has been in charge...or perhaps the painting has been in charge and the painter only facilitates.

In the works--working on the small painting below from the driveway. It was quite a lovely morning until the wind picked up and it became a little chilly. Even though there had been plenty of daffodils in this location and the peonies are yet to appear, I manufactured the flowers. I tend to manufacture a lot these days. I think it's because I don't do commission work anymore. Inventing is far more fun.
