THE ART CELLAR PRESENTS RUTHIE WINDSOR MANN
Ms. Windsor-Mann’s approach to art making is inspired by the impressionist style, yet intricacy and detail remain very important in her works.
Citing Turner as an important influence, Mann’s compositions tend to lead the eye through endless transitions of color. She is not interested in photo-realism although she preserves the recognizable elements of her subjects. Ms. Windsor-Mann treats her subjects with a sensitivity which invokes a stillness and meditative quality.
Her small works, sometimes as small as four inches by four inches, are made even more intimate through the viewer’s close interaction. These smaller works become precious glimpses-almost like memories-while her large paintings depict the subtle splendor of our everyday surroundings. Typically working outdoors from life rather than photographs, Ms. Windsor-Mann is identified with the Plein Air genre. This is evident in the feeling of openness in her works.
Ruthie grew up around her mother’s painting and learned a
great deal about color at an early age. She
